Do you see anything wrong with these lunges? Let me show you how to fix this.

Depending on your anatomy, we want the kneecap to track over the third, fourth, and fifth toes.

When your knee tracks inward, you’re misaligning the knee and you’re putting a lot of strain on the meniscus.

This will eventually create inflammation and pain.

Follow these steps to perfect your lunge:

Take a step a little bit further than your usual walking distance.

Make sure your big toe is planted on the ground and turn your belly button towards the side to ensure that your femur stays tracking in the right position.

Then, drop your chest a tiny bit and take the lunge. The kneecap should be tracking over the third toe.

Lunges are great if done correctly. Follow these simple steps to get better, not older! 🔥

... Read moreFrom my personal experience, lunges have always been a go-to exercise for improving leg strength and balance, but I found that improper technique often led to knee discomfort. Understanding the importance of proper knee tracking can truly transform your workout and prevent injury. One key tip I learned is to always pay attention to the alignment of your kneecap—it should follow over the third, fourth, or fifth toe depending on your anatomy. When your knee moves inward during the lunge, it places unnecessary strain on the meniscus, leading to inflammation and pain. To avoid this, I adjusted my stance by taking a step longer than my usual stride, which helped in keeping a stable base. Planting the big toe firmly and slightly rotating the belly button towards the lunging side helped me maintain the femur's correct position. Dropping the chest slightly during the movement also contributed to better balance and form. Additionally, it's helpful to perform lunges in front of a mirror or record yourself so you can check your knee's tracking. If you notice your knees drifting inward, stop and readjust your foot placement and torso alignment. Over time, I noticed less knee pain and improved leg strength, which motivated me to consistently include lunges in my fitness routine. Remember, perfect lunges don't just make you stronger—they also protect your joints and promote longevity in your workouts. Following these simple, chiropractor-approved steps can help you get better, not older!
