Spooktacular!! 🎃🌙

Hey everyone! 👋 You know how those DIY tomato cage witch and ghost decorations have been all over Pinterest and TikTok? Well, I finally decided to try making them myself for this Halloween, and let me tell you, it was such a fun project! If you're looking for an affordable and impactful way to spookify your yard, this is definitely it. First, let's talk about the Tomato Cage Witch. It might seem intimidating, but it's surprisingly simple. You'll need a standard tomato cage (the taller, the better for a dramatic witch!), some old black or dark-colored clothes (a long-sleeved shirt, a skirt, or even a dress works great), newspaper or plastic bags for stuffing, a witch hat, and some gloves. I used a foam ball for the head, but you could also crumple up newspaper and cover it with fabric. I started by turning the tomato cage upside down – the wider opening becomes the base. Then, I stuffed the top part of the cage with newspaper to create the shoulders and upper body. Next, I slipped the shirt and skirt over the cage, stuffing them lightly to give the witch some shape. For the head, I attached my foam ball to the top wire of the cage and then draped some sheer black fabric over it, tucking the edges into the shirt collar. Don’t forget to add a classic witch hat and some spooky gloves! For an extra touch, I strung some battery-operated purple string lights inside her, making her glow eerily at night. Plus, she needed a broom, of course! Now, for the Tomato Cage Ghost. This one is even quicker! You'll need another tomato cage, a large white sheet or some white fabric, and a small ball (like a Styrofoam ball or even a plastic grocery bag crumpled up) for the head. Again, turn the tomato cage upside down. Place the ball at the very top point of the cage to form the ghost's head. Then, simply drape your white sheet or fabric over the entire cage, ensuring it covers the head and drapes down to the ground. I used some clear fishing line to gently cinch a 'neck' area and also tied it around the 'arms' (the top rings of the cage) to give it a more defined shape. For the face, I cut out two large oval eyes and a jagged mouth from black felt and glued them on. To make my ghost truly 'spooktacular', I added a string of white LED fairy lights under the sheet. When it gets dark, this Tomato Cage Witch & Ghost duo really comes to life in my yard, casting awesome shadows and welcoming trick-or-treaters with a friendly (or spooky!) glow. A few personal tips I picked up along the way: if you're planning to leave them out in the elements, consider using plastic bags for stuffing instead of newspaper, as they're more weather-resistant. Also, use zip ties or garden stakes to secure the base of your tomato cages to the ground, especially if you live in a windy area. And don't be afraid to get creative with accessories – old scarves, plastic spiderwebs, or even some plastic chains can add so much character. Happy haunting, everyone!
