This Summer Activity is So FUN!
DIY Sidewalk Spray Chalk
All you need:
• Spray bottles
• Warm water?
• Cornstarch
• 4-6 drops food coloring
Mix 1 cup of warm water, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, and 4-6 drops of food coloring in each spray bottle. Shake well before spraying since the cornstarch will settle.
We made four different colors and covered our sidewalk with flowers, smiley faces, rainbows, and also used stencils. The best part? It sprays on like paint and dries with a chalky finish!
Perfect for sunny afternoons and making colortul summer memories.
Don't forget to save for later!

Engaging kids in creative outdoor activities can be a wonderful way to make summer memorable, and DIY sidewalk spray chalk is an excellent example. From my personal experience, this simple project not only enhances children’s artistic expression but also keeps them physically active under the sun. The key ingredients—cornstarch, warm water, and food coloring—are super easy to gather and budget-friendly. An important tip I learned is to shake the spray bottles well before each use because the cornstarch tends to settle quickly, ensuring an even and smooth spray application. Mixing multiple bottles with different colors allows for vibrant and playful designs, from whimsical rainbows to joyful smiley faces. We also experimented with stencils, which made it easier for younger kids to create neat shapes while boosting their confidence and engagement. Playing with the spray chalk outdoors promotes fine motor skills and encourages social interaction if friends or siblings join the fun. Another bonus is that this chalk is water-based and safe for kids and the environment. Cleanup is simple as well—rain or a hose spray washes away the chalk without any staining. The phrase "Okay kids... Let’s try this!" from the fun image inspired me to turn this craft into a mini family event. I found that introducing the project with enthusiasm motivates kids to participate eagerly. Overall, DIY spray chalk transforms a basic sidewalk into a colorful canvas and brightens up sunny afternoons, making it an unforgettable summer activity that families can enjoy together and cherish for years.
