DIY Ghost Outlet Cover 👻

Easy Halloween decor you can make yourself! 🎃

I made this DIY ghost outlet cover using a small frame, cheesecloth, Mod Podge, water, a Styrofoam ball, and a pipe cleaner. Just dip the cheesecloth into a mixture of Mod Podge and water, drape it over a glass with a Styrofoam ball and pipe cleaner arms, and let it dry.

Once it’s dry, glue the ghost onto the frame, add dried flowers, draw on the eyes and background with paint markers, and glue a plug to the back so it slides right into an outlet to cover it!

Perfect for adding a cute spooky touch to your Halloween decor. 👻🖤✨

I recently tried this DIY ghost outlet cover project, and it quickly became a favorite craft to add personality to my space. What I loved about using cheesecloth dipped in a Mod Podge and water mix is how it creates a ghostly, ethereal look once dried—perfect for the spooky season. One tip I picked up while crafting was to use a glass to shape the cheesecloth over the Styrofoam ball and pipe cleaner arms; this really helped form a nice, rounded ghost shape. After letting it dry completely, attaching dried flowers around the frame added a unique natural element that softened the look, blending spooky with charming perfectly. To draw the ghost’s eyes and background, paint markers were ideal because they gave me clean lines without messy cleanup. Also, gluing a plug to the back of the frame was a clever hack; it allowed the cover to slide securely into an outlet while concealing it. This way, it’s both decorative and practical. I found that creating several of these little ghosts and placing them around different outlets in the house really enhanced the Halloween vibe without overwhelming the decor. Plus, it’s a kid-friendly craft, so involving family or friends makes the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, this project shows how inexpensive materials combined with a bit of creativity can transform ordinary items into festive decorations that bring a personal touch to your Halloween celebrations. I’m now inspired to explore making other Halloween outlet covers with different themes—like pumpkins or bats—to complement the ghost cover and diversify my seasonal decor.
