🍇 The focus of this place:

- Like many castles in France, Chantilly began as a defensive fortress in the Middle Ages before being transformed into a magnificent mansion in the following centuries.

- The connection of this land to the Montmorency family began in 1484. The first mansion (which now no longer exists because it was replaced by the Grand Château) was built between 1528 and 1531 for Anne de Montmorency by Pierre Chambiges.

- After the death of Henri II de Montmorency, the castle fell to his nephew, the Grand Condé, who inherited it through his mother Charlotte Marguerite de Montmorency.

- After Louis Joseph de Bourbon, Prince of Condé died, he had no male heirs, and he ceded all his property to the Duke of Aumale, or the full name Henri d'Orléans, the Duke of Aumale occupied the Château de Chantilly during the 19th century, when he was only 8 years old.

- Henri d'Orléans, Duke of Aumale, was the younger son of Louis-Philippe I, the last French king (reigned 1830-1848). It was he who restored and rebuilt the Grand Château of 1875-1882 after the original castle itself was destroyed during the French Revolution.

- After dying in 1897, he ceded the Chantilly with its entire art collection to the Institut de France to open it as a public museum in accordance with his will.

- There is a story that King Louis XIV visited the castle in 1671. François Vatel, the chief dining room keeper of the Grand Gongde, took his life for fear that fish would be served too late.

- It is now open to the public because it is another good Art Gallery and Museum of France.
