8 Reasons to Drink Matcha Tea 🍵
I don’t know “matcha” about health and wellness (see what I did there?!) but I am trying to be better. One of the changes I have made in my morning routine – though not always – is swapping my coffee for a matcha latte and so far I have been impressed with the level of energy I am able to maintain throughout the morning and early afternoon. But what are the benefits to drinking this neon green beverage? Here are the top 8 reasons to drink matcha:
1. It’s high in antioxidants
2. Protects the liver
3. Boosts brain function
4. May help prevent cancer
5. May promote heart health
6. Helps with weight loss
7. Improves energy levels without the jittery feeling of coffee
8. Improves skin
SO YOU MIGHT BE THINKING, “OKAY, THAT’S COOL AND ALL, BUT WHAT IS IT?“
Matcha powder is made from ground tea leaves. Unlike traditional teas, when you drink matcha you are consuming the entire leaf which means you get 10x more nutrients than other green teas.
DOES IT TASTE LIKE DIRT?
I wouldn’t say it tastes like dirt but it does have a slightly bitter and earthy taste. Luckily for you I have included my own trial-and-error recipe for crafting the perfect matcha latte – cheers! 🍵
Ingredients:
½ – 1 tsp. matcha powder (my favorite one is linked here)
½ cup of hot water
½ cup warmed milk of choice (I prefer almond)
2 tsp. honey or pure maple syrup
DIRECTIONS:
Sift matcha powder into a large mug to remove all clumps (sometimes I just use a fork)
Add the hot water and whisk briskly in a back and forth motion – not a circular motion – until frothy
Taste and add additional water, milk, or sweetener as needed

I hope you found at least a few reasons to drink matcha and add it to your morning routine! 🖤

Matcha tea, a finely ground powder made from shade-grown green tea leaves, is packed with antioxidants, particularly catechins, which have been linked to numerous health benefits. 1. **Higher Antioxidant Content**: Matcha contains up to 137 times the antioxidants found in regularly brewed green tea. It helps combat oxidative stress and promote overall health. 2. **Detoxification Properties**: The chlorophyll in matcha contributes to detoxification, aiding in the removal of toxins and heavy metals from the body. 3. **Enhanced Cognitive Function**: The combination of caffeine and L-theanine in matcha offers a calm alertness, improving focus and concentration without the jitteriness associated with coffee. 4. **Cancer-Fighting Potential**: Various studies suggest that the high levels of antioxidants in matcha may help inhibit the growth of cancer cells. This is attributed to its high levels of EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). 5. **Heart Health**: Regular consumption of matcha is linked to lower cholesterol levels and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, providing heart-healthy benefits. 6. **Weight Management**: Matcha can boost metabolism and fat oxidation, making it an excellent addition to a weight-loss regime. 7. **Supports Healthy Skin**: The antioxidants in matcha may help protect the skin against UV damage and free radicals, promoting a healthy complexion. Incorporating matcha into your daily routine could be an enjoyable and health-promoting habit, especially with its delicious taste and ease of preparation.
