The term 'giga dysmorphia' mentioned here strongly resonates with the overwhelming feelings many face when confronted with unrealistic beauty ideals. During my visits to popular Korean destinations, I encountered not only admiration for the culture and scenery but also a striking emphasis on appearance, often perpetuated by media and social networks. This sometimes created pressure to look a certain way, which can be disheartening. However, I found that embracing individuality and focusing on personal enjoyment of the travel experience helped me combat these pressures effectively. Moreover, the concept of 'immediate serve,' often seen in fast and attentive service in Korea, translated metaphorically into how people also expect immediate perfection in looks, which is unrealistic and unfair. Travel experiences that encourage authentic self-expression rather than conforming to standards had a positive impact on my confidence. For anyone feeling overwhelmed by lookism or societal beauty pressures, especially while traveling, I recommend focusing on cultural experiences, building connections, and practicing self-compassion. This approach not only enriches the travel experience but fosters a healthier relationship with oneself, making every journey more fulfilling.
