Chapter: 3 John
3 John teaches that true faith shows itself in loving support for the gospel and humble submission to Christ’s authority.
John praises Gaius for “walking in the truth” (v. 4) and for helping traveling teachers who went out “for the sake of the Name” (v. 7). Believers who support such work become “fellow workers for the truth” (v. 8). In contrast, Diotrephes is rebuked because he “loves to be first” (v. 9) and refuses apostolic authority. John concludes, “The one who does good is of God” (v. 11).
Meaning: Genuine Christianity is seen in truth-driven love, faithful partnership in gospel ministry, and humble leadership—not pride or self-promotion.
Do you see your faith more reflected in Gaius’ generosity or in guarding your own position?
