How to save money on Tesla charging in Bay Area:

Trying to figure out how to charge my Tesla without going broke, and I’m honestly confused. In the Bay Area right now:

Supercharger peak: $0.46/kWh

Supercharger off-peak: $0.31/kWh

Home charging peak: $0.62/kWh (!!)

Home charging off-peak: $0.50/kWh

So… is it actually cheaper to go to a Supercharger than plug in at home?!

If you own an EV in California, what’s your charging strategy? Are you timing everything for off-peak? Solar? Public chargers? What’s the cheapest way to charge right now?

One key strategy to save money is to schedule your charging sessions during off-peak hours whenever possible. Many utility providers in California use time-of-use (TOU) plans that lower electricity rates after peak times, usually at night. Utilizing these off-peak periods for home charging can reduce costs significantly compared to charging during daytime peak hours. Another effective approach is to consider solar panel installations if you have access to them. Solar energy can drastically lower your home electricity bills and provide a sustainable, cost-efficient way to power your Tesla.
