I Did Not Want This Gift…
My birthday is coming up soon and I recently found out that my mom applied for and got approved for a credit card in my name without telling me.
When she finally told me, I was honestly shocked and just said something like oh okay, not really knowing how to react. I told her I had already applied for one myself recently and she instantly looked disappointed, saying I ruined her surprise because she already did it for me.
The next day I told her calmly that I was not comfortable with her doing that and asked her not to ever do it again. That is when everything blew up. She started yelling, calling me ungrateful and disrespectful, saying she was not my enemy. She also said all her friends and even her boyfriend agreed it was a great gift. When I tried to explain why it made me uncomfortable, she told me to shut up.
It has been a rough week since then. She never apologizes and any time I try to talk about my feelings it turns into her yelling or blaming me. I really want to move out but I cannot afford it right now.
So am I wrong for not accepting this as a birthday gift? What would you do?

That’s fraud. Opening a credit account under anyone else’s name without their knowledge AND presence AND your own presence on the application. Source- I worked for a bank and opened several credit cards for willing clients. Who were in front of me. And aware that they were applying for credit cards.
