She Pretends My Child Was Not There And Call My EX

Today was supposed to be a normal pick up. I drove to get my son from her place like always.

After that, his grandma called my ex and told him I wanted to pick up my kid, and she doesn’t want to.

When I arrived, I knocked and waited. No answer. I called. She picked up and said very calmly, “He is not here.” BUT I could hear my son’s voice in the background!!!

I said, “I can literally hear him.” She paused, then opened the door like nothing happened and smiled, even no apology or explanation.

I took my son and left without a word. I cried in the car after. I just felt like I was betrayed, why she would do this to me??

Am I wrong for feeling like this crossed a line? How would you handle this if it were you?

The situation described, where a grandmother pretends the child is not present and even calls your ex to interfere with a scheduled pick-up, is an example of complex family dynamics that many single parents may experience. In situations like these, it's important to first recognize the emotional impact this can have on you as a parent. Feelings of betrayal and sadness are natural responses when trust is broken by someone close. Taking time to process these emotions, whether through journaling, talking to trusted friends, or seeking professional counseling, can help maintain your emotional well-being. Communication is also crucial. Documenting each interaction and any discrepancies can be helpful for clarifying misunderstandings or if legal counsel becomes necessary. When possible, calmly express your concerns to the family members involved, aiming to understand their motivations and explain your perspective. Setting boundaries and agreeing on clear, respectful protocols for future exchanges can reduce conflict. Legal advice may be appropriate if these behaviors interfere with your custody rights or your child's welfare. Family mediation services are often effective in resolving such disputes amicably. Remember, your child’s best interest is the priority. Continued exposure to family tension can affect them emotionally. Engaging in consistent, loving parenting and maintaining stable routines helps provide security for your child amidst family challenges. Lastly, you are not alone. Many single parents find themselves navigating difficult relationships with their child's extended family. Sharing your experiences and seeking support from communities or support groups can offer encouragement, advice, and comfort as you work through these complex situations. The question posed—"Why My Kid's Granny Did This???"—reflects a deep emotional struggle many parents face. While reasons can vary, focusing on constructive solutions and self-care can empower you to handle such conflicts with resilience and protect your relationship with your child.
