I thought she was a stranger…
One day, I felt so broken
that even walking felt heavy.
I sat on a bench,
not to rest my body,
but to give my heart a moment to breathe.
A middle-aged woman came and sat beside me.
For a while, we said nothing.
Then she smiled gently and asked,
“Are you okay?”
“Not really,” I whispered.
She looked at me with kindness and said,
“I am a good listener,
if your heart needs to speak.”
And somehow, I opened up.
I poured out every pain,
every fear,
every sorrow I had been carrying in silence.
She did not interrupt.
She did not judge.
She simply listened.
When I finished,
I looked at her face.
It was calm.
Peaceful.
Unshaken.
As if storms had passed through her,
but could no longer live inside her.
Then she said,
“I had the same trauma.”
I asked her,
“How did you become so gentle, so calm,
so untouched by the pain?”
She smiled and replied,
“Pain does not come only to break you.
Sometimes, it comes to teach you
how strong, resilient, and peaceful
you are meant to become.
Accept what you cannot change.
Let go of what you cannot carry.
One day, you will find me.”
Then she stood up and walked away.
And in that quiet moment,
I understood…
She was not a stranger.
She was my future self,
coming back to remind me
that I will survive this too.
