Living Soil
Pick up a handful of soil. Any soil. Look at it. What you are holding appears to be a relatively simple thing — dirt, brown stuff, the ground you walk on. But what you are actually holding is one of the most physically and chemically complex materials on Earth — a three-dimensional matrix of mineral particles, organic compounds, water, gas, and living organisms whose structure operates at the atomic and molecular level in ways that determine everything from how food grows to how a forest stores water to how the planet regulates its own climate.
Different soils are not just different colors or different textures. They are fundamentally different (blog on website)
