The Major Arcana

The tarot deck has 78 cards, but there is a set of 22 that stands apart from all the rest. The Major Arcana. These are the cards that stop people mid-reading. The ones that carry a weight and a presence that the other cards don’t quite match. When a Major Arcana card lands in your spread, something in you notices it. The energy shifts. Whatever was being explored just went deeper.

The word “arcana” comes from the Latin for secrets or mysteries. The Major Arcana are the great mysteries of the tarot (blog on website)

... Read moreIn my experience with tarot readings, the Major Arcana truly stands out for its profound impact on the interpretation of a spread. These 22 cards symbolically represent life's most significant spiritual lessons and transformative experiences. Unlike the Minor Arcana, which reflect everyday occurrences, the Major Arcana invites you to dive deeper into your subconscious and the bigger picture of your life's journey. Each card tells a story, from The Fool's journey of new beginnings and potential, to The World, which signifies completion and fulfillment. When one of these cards appears in a reading, it often signals a pivotal moment or a message that calls for attention beyond the surface. For example, Temperance, which I learned is linked to balance and harmony, often appears when I need to find moderation in conflicting situations. The term "arcana" itself hints at secrets or mysteries, which resonates with the way these cards feel during a reading. They reveal hidden truths and insights that are sometimes surprising but always thought-provoking. I’ve found that knowing a bit about the symbolism and story behind each card enhances the reading’s depth and personal relevance. Whether you are new to tarot or have been exploring it for years, focusing on the Major Arcana adds a rich layer of meaning that connects tarot to universal themes of growth, challenge, and enlightenment. I recommend spending time getting familiar with each card’s imagery and traditional meanings to uncover their unique messages in your own life and readings.
