🛕 History of Doi Suthep Relic

Doi Suthep Relic is located on Doi Suthep in Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, Chiang Mai Province.

It has been a double temple in Chiang Mai for more than 600 years.

It was built in the time of Phyagna (6th King of the Mangrai Dynasty).

In 1929, or about 1386,

This is the most famous story of Doi Suthep.

Maha Suman Thra brought the "Buddha's right collarbone" from Sukhothai to offer the serpent.

But when the box is opened, the elements are separated into two pieces.

Therefore put another piece in the temple of the flower garden

And the other, he shall take it to the right place to pack it.

So the dragon summoned the element up behind the white elephant, allowing it to walk on its own.

Elephants walk around Doi Suthep 3 times.

And then sit down and cry three times before you die.

So the serpent considered that place to be a holy place.

🪷 Architecture

• The pagoda is a bell-shaped Lanna (like Chiang Saen)

• Whole brass lining, glitter in the Chiang Mai sun

• Around the pagoda was a brass fence, with bells and a double naga up the stairs.

• There is a "306 Nak Staircase" at the main ascent.

(But now there is a basket for people who don't want to walk too)

• Doi Suthep is an annual relic born "Year of the Ma'ma" (goat).

• Believe that if you go up to worship relics, you will receive merit and dignity.

• Northerners often say, "To Chiang Mai, if you don't go up to Doi Suthep, it's like you haven't actually arrived in Chiang Mai."

🌅. Interesting anecdote.

• Every year there is a "tradition up the doi Suthep" on Vesak Day.

Chiang Mai residents will walk up from the foot of the doi at night to the top of the morning to worship relics.

• If you look at the city at night, you will see the tops of the relics glowing on the doi, like a star in Chiang Mai.
