Clarity about the folding-screen iPhone, or iPhone Fold, has finally begun to take more shape, after leaving its smartphone market competitors several years ahead. Most recently, Mark German, a tech journalist at Bloomberg known for one of the most accurate Apple insider data, has come forward to confirm that Apple plans to release the iPhone Fold in late 2026, but may have to wait in queues after the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max have already begun to be delivered.
Going back to Apple's regular timeline, it usually launches new iPhones in September, but for the iPhone Fold, German indicates that it is highly likely to postpone delivery to December or leave a range of about three months away from normal models. This event is not new to Apple fans because it happened in 2017, when the iPhone X was launched that was so sophisticated to produce OLED screens and Face ID systems that it had to be postponed to November, while the iPhone 8 went on sale before September.
The main reason why the iPhone Fold has to lag behind other models comes from the complexity of the folding screen manufacturing process, especially the crease management, which Apple tries hard to smooth the inner screen for a high-quality video and gaming experience. There is also the issue of body thickness that made it possible for the first generation to not have a Face ID system because the 3D camera module set is still too thick to fit into a folding machine, so Apple opted for finger scanning or Touch ID on the Power button instead, which is the same approach used in the iPad Air.
For users in Thailand, the most to prepare for is the price. It is predicted that the iPhone Fold may launch at a starting price above US $2,000, or if it is taxed in Thai money, it may reach 75,000 - $80,000, which will make it the highest-priced iPhone ever. It is a very challenging number even for a group of fans.
However, despite the high price and some technology may seem to be reversing back to finger scanning, the excitement in the market is still considerable, because this is Apple's biggest design change in years, which has to wait to prove that by the time it actually opens in late 2026, will the crease-free folding screen innovation be worth the wait and the big money to pay?
