I came across this news. Counterpoint Research just released a global mobile sales report for the first quarter of 2026. It appears that the standard iPhone 17 has risen to number 1, consuming about 6% of global sales. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, which was the champion in the previous quarter, fell to number 2, and the iPhone 17 Pro is number 3.

Interestingly, in Q4 2025, the Pro Max is still number 1, but after this year, it has been overtaken by juniors. The reason that analysts have given is that Apple has updated enough standard models since its launch in September last year. Both the 120Hz display have a starting capacity of 256GB from the original. The iPhone 16 provides only 128GB, as well as the upgraded camera, narrowing the difference with the Pro model, so people feel that it's worth buying a normal one.

The growing markets are China, the US and South Korea, where sales have grown three times a year earlier.

The rest of the Top 10, Samsung sent the Galaxy A series into five models: the A07, A56, A36, A17 5G and A17 4G. The force from the Middle East, Africa, Latin America markets, plus a 6-year-long OS update policy. The previous year's iPhone 16 was also on the top 6, and Xiaomi's Redmi A5 ended up at number 10, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra missed out on a pushy basis.

The report says the Top 10 this quarter consumed a combined 25% share of global sales. It marks the first quarter in which the market was concentrated highest ever.
