... Read moreOkay, so you read my initial thoughts on the new Trolli Gummi Pop, and yeah, a 1 out of 10 is pretty harsh! But let me explain why I felt so strongly about it, and maybe share what I was hoping for when I picked up that vibrant pink package at Walmart.
First off, the packaging itself is super eye-catching. The "NEW Trolli Gummi Pop" with the red and yellow popsicle and those iconic gummy worm illustrations really grabbed my attention. I'm a big fan of Trolli's regular gummies – those sour worms and bears are a nostalgic treat for me. So, when I saw a frozen version promising "CHEWY GUMMI TEXTURE!" and "CHERRY LEMON" flavor, my expectations were sky-high. I imagined a refreshing, slightly chewy, intensely fruity experience, like an icy gummy.
However, the reality was... different. The "CHEWY GUMMI TEXTURE!" was the biggest letdown for me. Instead of a pleasant chewiness, it felt more like a dense, almost rubbery ice pop. It lacked that distinct bounce and give you get from a traditional gummy. It was hard to bite into, and then just felt a bit... unyielding. It didn't melt in a way that felt satisfying; it just kind of softened into a less enjoyable version of its frozen self.
Then there was the "CHERRY LEMON" flavor. Individually, cherry and lemon can be fantastic. Together, in a gummy, they often balance each other out perfectly. But in this frozen form, the flavors seemed muted and overly artificial. I was hoping for a bright, tangy burst, but it was just a faint, somewhat generic sweetness with a chemical aftertaste. It didn't have the vibrant, distinct fruitiness I associate with Trolli's other products. It felt like they tried to translate the gummy experience to a frozen treat, but lost the essence somewhere along the way.
It makes me wonder if some things are just meant to be kept in their original form. A chewy gummy is great. A refreshing popsicle is great. But combining them might be a trickier balance than it seems. Perhaps if the texture was softer, more like a frozen fruit purée with gummy bits, or if the flavor was more concentrated and natural, it could have been a winner.
For now, if you're like me and love Trolli, I'd probably stick to their classic gummy worms or bears. If you're looking for a refreshing frozen treat, there are so many amazing options out there that truly deliver on flavor and texture. This Trolli Gummi Pop, for me, just didn't hit the mark. It was an interesting experiment, but one I won't be repeating. Have you tried it? I'd love to hear if your experience was different!
