Took a gamble with this Taobao buy…
Decided to try getting a new luggage from Taobao for our recent trip after my last one got busted up pretty badly in Europe 😳 this is from the brand Front Walker (search the name on Taobao and you’ll find their store) - we got it delivered for free under the 199yuan promo.
Overall review: pretty good!
The main selling points for this is really the wheel lock function - which locks the luggage wheels like how you can lock wheels on strollers/trolleys!
Not a luggage expert for sure, but I hardly see any other suitcases in the market at this price point with this function - at first I thought it was just to prevent the suitcase from rolling around when it’s stowed on trains (which was really useful because I no longer have to grip my luggage when travelling with it on the mrt 🤣)
I realised it’s also super useful to have when you’re standing on a slope/uneven ground cos you can lock the wheels to prevent the luggage from rolling downhill/away by accident. Super useful if you’re travelling in a place with lots of slopes!
I did check out other similar models - always wanted a front opening suitcase in a cute colour (cos I’m superficial🤡) and I couldn’t find any other solid quality ones (suspicious no-brand ones with funky wheels not included) for under $200 🤔
The downsides:
- It does get dirty quite easily (maybe because of the texture and colour) so I’d always see black marks on it after a flight - but that’s also probably because I was too lazy to use the protector they provided 😅
- the wheels work quite well but they are definitely not the smoothest wheels I’ve ever seen - it does take a bit of extra pressure to make sudden direction changes, but no issues with the luggage when it is just moving forward
TLDR:
Admittedly it’s not the cheapest luggage out there lah 🤣 I know 🤣 and also cos I wanted to buy it from the official store for free SG returns in case anything happened to it so I did pay a little extra (instead of getting the same model from a random reseller)
but in terms of being value for money it’s pretty alright! A good choice if you want something that’s not flimsy and has fragile wheels (looking at those random unbranded luggages that always seem to crack and break a bit too fast 😛) but don’t want to shell out a few hundred bucks for something high end.
