It’s always exciting when B&BW drops these themed lines, and as a huge Disney fan, I was especially curious to see how they'd capture the essence of characters like the Evil Queen and Maleficent in a fragrance.
When I first encountered the 'Evil Queen' scent, my immediate thought was 'classic fall, but with a twist.' The original review mentioned honey apple, and I definitely picked up on that crisp, juicy apple note. It wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciated. The honey, as noted, was quite subtle, almost blended into the background, giving it a comforting warmth rather than being sticky-sweet. I imagine this scent would be perfect for a cozy evening, perhaps in a candle form, filling a room with a welcoming, slightly mysterious aroma. For those who love fruity yet sophisticated scents, this one could be a real winner. It felt less 'evil' and more 'regal' – fitting for a queen, even if she's plotting something!
Now, for 'Maleficent' – oh boy! My initial reaction was quite strong, and after thinking about it, I realized why it struck me as an 'old fragrance.' It had a very prominent, almost spicy musk. Musk can be incredibly polarizing; some people adore its depth and staying power, while others, like me sometimes, find it a bit overwhelming or heavy. It definitely had a more 'dark' and 'dramatic' vibe, which I suppose aligns with Maleficent's character. If you're someone who gravitates towards bold, oriental, or classic heavy perfumes, you might actually love this. I can see it as a powerful body spray, leaving a strong impression, or a lotion that lingers for hours. It screamed 'forest deep, ancient magic, and maybe a dragon nearby!' rather than a gentle floral.
What I've learned from trying these (and many other B&BW scents!) is that product format can make a huge difference. A scent that's 'too strong' in a body spray might be absolutely perfect as a candle, where the throw is diffused. Or a light fragrance that fades quickly in a mist might last longer as a body cream. The 'PICK YOUR POTION' sign I saw at the display really captured this idea – it’s not just about the scent, but how you want to experience it. Are you looking for a subtle hint, or a full-on immersive aroma?
Ultimately, choosing a fragrance is so personal. My '2/10' for Maleficent doesn't mean it's a bad scent, just that it wasn't for *me*. And the '6/10' for Evil Queen means it was pleasant, but didn't blow my mind. It’s all about finding what resonates with your nose and your mood. Don't be afraid to try them out in person, give them a few minutes to settle, and see how they develop on your skin or in the air. These themed collections are such a fun way to bring a little bit of Disney magic into your everyday, even if not every 'potion' is your perfect match.
