This recipe uses sourdough discard mixed with flour, cold butter, and dairy ingredients such as milk and heavy whipping cream to create a soft, tender dough. One key aspect of perfect sourdough cinnamon rolls is allowing the dough to rest overnight on a floured surface. This fermentation period enhances the flavor and texture, yielding rolls that are rich and fluffy. The inclusion of both baking powder and baking soda ensures a nice rise and light crumb. Filling the rolls with a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter brings the classic sweet and spicy flavor profile that cinnamon rolls are loved for. Using a pizza cutter to slice the rolled dough into even rolls makes the process easier and more precise. Baking the rolls in a greased pan at 375°F for 35-40 minutes lets them cook evenly and develop a golden-brown crust. A helpful pro tip is to leave enough space between each roll in the pan; this allows them to expand and cook without sticking together, retaining a light texture. For those new to sourdough discard baking, this recipe offers a practical way to reduce waste while creating a delightful treat that pairs wonderfully with a cup of coffee or tea. Experimenting with this recipe can also open the door to variations, such as adding nuts, raisins, or a cream cheese glaze after baking to elevate the flavor. By making sourdough cinnamon rolls at home, you enjoy a fresh, aromatic treat with the satisfaction of using wholesome ingredients and traditional baking methods. This recipe captures the essence of homemade comfort food with the added nutritional benefits that sourdough fermentation can provide.
