... Read moreWow, finishing these Inside Out 2 drawings was such a blast! I'm still buzzing from seeing the movie and getting to bring these incredible new emotions to life with my colored pencils. There's just something so captivating about the way Disney-Pixar visualizes our inner world, and these new characters, especially Anxiety, Envy, and Ennui, are absolutely brilliant.
When I started sketching Anxiety, I knew I had to get her vibrant orange, spiky hair just right – it’s such a defining feature! I used a mix of warm yellows and oranges, building up layers to give it that energetic, almost frazzled look. Her wide, expressive blue eyes and that striped shirt really capture her restless energy. For anyone looking to draw her, I'd say start with a light sketch of her basic shape, then really focus on exaggerating her features to convey that anxious feeling. Colored pencils are great for blending, so don't be afraid to layer different shades to add depth to her skin tone and clothes. It’s all about capturing that dynamic movement she has!
Next up was Ennui, and her cool, detached vibe was a fun challenge. Her long, elegant neck and distinctive purple hair needed a soft touch. I loved drawing her just casually holding her phone – it's such a perfect detail for her character. And then there's Envy, with her striking blue hair, large, inquisitive eyes, and that fabulous purple polka-dotted dress. I tried to make her eyes really pop, reflecting that intense desire she often feels. Each character has such a unique palette, and it’s been a joy exploring how to translate their animated looks into static art.
Inside Out 2 really does such an amazing job at introducing these 'new' emotions, making them relatable and understandable. It’s not just a kids' movie; it offers so much insight into how all these feelings interact within us. For me, seeing Anxiety personified with her frantic energy and worry actually made me reflect on my own experiences with anxiety. It’s comforting to see such complex emotions portrayed in a way that feels so real. The film helps us understand that these emotions aren't 'bad,' but rather parts of us that serve a purpose, even if they can be overwhelming sometimes. It truly became one of those comfort movies that helps you feel seen and understood.
I'm already thinking about who to draw next! Maybe an expressive Sadness, or perhaps the perpetually annoyed Disgust? There are so many fantastic Inside Out emotions to choose from. What do you guys think? Which Inside Out 2 character or emotion would you love to see me draw next, or which character resonates with you the most from the new movie? Let me know in the comments!
