New matcha
Has anyone tried this matcha brand before? I just ordered it since I was running low and spotted it on the Shop app. I decided to give it a shot - 59g for $84, I hope it taste good for the price. The notes are smooth, nutty, and chocolatey.

It's so exciting to try a new matcha, especially one like the Tezumi Kanoyama Uji Okumidori! I totally get the anticipation when you invest in a premium blend. For anyone wondering about Kanoyama matcha, Uji Okumidori is actually a well-regarded cultivar, known for often producing a vibrant green color and a balanced, umami-rich flavor profile with less bitterness. It’s often grown in the Uji region of Japan, which is renowned for its high-quality tea production, particularly for ceremonial grade matcha. The terroir in Uji, with its specific climate and soil, contributes significantly to the unique characteristics of teas from this area. When you mention notes like 'smooth, nutty, and chocolatey,' it really piques my interest! These are often characteristics found in exceptional ceremonial grade matcha, indicating a complex flavor journey rather than just a grassy taste. The 'smooth' aspect usually refers to a fine texture and lack of astringency, while 'nutty' and 'chocolatey' hint at deeper, sometimes roasted or cocoa-like undertones that add a unique dimension to the traditional matcha experience. This is what sets a premium matcha experience apart from everyday green tea, making each sip a moment of pure enjoyment. To truly appreciate the nuances of a matcha like Kanoyama's Uji Okumidori, proper preparation makes all the difference. I always recommend sifting the bright green matcha powder first to prevent clumps – a small tea sifter can make a huge difference in achieving a lump-free, smooth drink. Then, using water just off the boil – around 175°F (80°C) is ideal – is crucial. Water that's too hot can scald the delicate tea leaves and bring out excessive bitterness, while water that's too cool won't allow the flavors to fully unfurl. Whisking it vigorously with a bamboo whisk (chasen) in a 'W' or 'M' motion until a fine, frothy layer forms on top not only makes for a beautiful presentation but also helps to fully suspend the powder and release its full aroma and taste. Don't be afraid to whisk for a good 30-60 seconds to achieve that perfect foam! Considering the $84 price tag for 59g, it definitely falls into the premium category. High-grade ceremonial matcha like this often commands a higher price due to a multitude of factors: careful cultivation practices (like shading the tea plants before harvest to boost chlorophyll and L-theanine), hand-picking only the youngest, tenderest leaves, precise stone-grinding, and potentially single-origin sourcing from revered tea gardens. What you're paying for is often an artisan product that delivers a superior sensory experience, not just a drink but a ritual. To protect your investment, remember to store your Tezumi Kanoyama matcha in an airtight container in the refrigerator after opening, away from light and moisture, to maintain its vibrant color and fresh flavor. I’m really looking forward to your update once you’ve tried it! It's always great to hear personal experiences with new matcha finds, especially for specific brands like Kanoyama. Your review could really help others in the #matchalife community decide if this exquisite Uji Okumidori is their next must-try.
