Who’s driving your career?

It doesn't matter:

1) How lofty your job title is

2) How much you get paid, or

3) How prestigious your company is.

Here's what matters:

Are you driving your own career?

If you are, you have control.

If you're not, you're someone else's puppet.

That's terrifying.

You deserve better!

... Read moreDriving your career means actively making choices that shape your professional journey rather than passively following a path laid out by others. From my experience, the key is owning your decisions—whether that’s seeking new skills, networking, or setting personal goals outside of just climbing the corporate ladder. You might think a fancy job title or high pay automatically means career success, but those alone don’t guarantee fulfillment or control. I’ve learned that when you let company priorities or bosses completely steer your path, you risk becoming a puppet, which can lead to dissatisfaction and stagnation. A practical approach includes identifying what truly motivates you and aligning your development with those values. For example, instead of waiting for promotions, set micro-goals that build competencies important for your dream role. Also, keeping a career journal or regularly reflecting on your progress helps maintain clarity and control. This proactive mindset helps you shift from being driven by external factors toward self-directed growth. Remember, your career is your vehicle—only you hold the steering wheel. Taking control not only empowers you but also grants a sense of accomplishment impossible to outsource to others.
