1 Game Board (6x7 square box geometry, comprising of 42 squares with In-Between Squares. )
7 Light-colored Wooden Disc Pieces
7 Dark-colored Wooden Disc Pieces
1 Instruction Sheet
Optional: Card Deck (for Advanced Rules)
Game Objective
The primary objective is to capture all of your opponent's pieces. Alternatively, you win by trapping all of your opponent's pieces so they cannot make a legal move.
Setup (Before Your First Move)
Place the Board: Lay the 6x7 game board flat between both players.
Choose Your Side: Each player chooses to play as either the Light or Dark pieces.
Position Your Pieces: Each player places their 7 wooden disc pieces on the Standard Squares of their front
rows.
Playing the Game: The Two-Phase Turn
Players take turns, with the Light pieces typically moving first. Each turn consists of one mandatory Standard Move and one optional In-Between Move with the same piece.
Phase 1: Standard Move (Mandatory)
Select a Piece: Choose one of your pieces on a Standard Square.
Move to an Adjacent Standard Square: Move your selected piece to an empty, adjacent Standard Square.
Orthogonal Movement: The piece can move one square forward, backward, or sideways.
Diagonal Movement: The piece can move one square diagonally.
Phase 2: The In-Between Move (Optional)
After completing a Standard Move, the same piece can immediately perform an In-Between Move.
1. Move to an In-Between Square: The piece moves from the Standard Square it just landed on, to an adjacent In-Between Square that touches it.
2. Slide to an Adjacent Standard Square (or Stay): From the In-Between Square, the piece may then slide to an adjacent empty Standard Square that is not the one it just came from.
End on Path: The piece can also end its turn on the In-Between Square (if you believe this is a strategic position).
💡 Strategic Insight: The Two-Phase Turn allows a piece to move diagonally then sideways, or forward then diagonally, by using the central Path Square as a pivot point.
Capturing Opponent's Pieces-
Standard Capture: If your piece moves (via a Standard Move) onto a Standard Square occupied by an opponent's piece, the opponent's piece is captured and removed from the board.
In-Between Capture: If your piece is on an In-Between Square and an opponent's piece occupies an adjacent Standard Square, you can move your piece from the In-Between Square onto that opponent's Standard Square, capturing them.
Special Ability: The Knight's Jump (One-Time Use)
Each player may use the Knight's Jump ability once per game in place of their normal Two-Phase Turn.
The "L" Shape: Choose one of your pieces. This piece makes a classic Chess Knight's "L" shaped move (two squares in one direction, then one square perpendicularly) to any Standard Square.
Capturing: If the destination Standard Square is occupied by an opponent's piece, that piece is captured.
Turn End: A piece using the Knight's Jump cannot perform an In-Between Move in the same turn.
Winning the Game
You win by:
Capturing all of your opponent's pieces.
Trapping your opponent's pieces so they cannot make any legal move on their turn.
Good luck, and may the sharpest strategist master the paths unseen!

Adjustment Bureau's The In Between Move Chess Board Game introduces an exciting twist on traditional chess strategy with its innovative 6x7 board geometry and the concept of In-Between Squares. Unlike classic chess, this game incorporates an additional dimension of movement that challenges players to think beyond straightforward adjacent moves. The board consists of 42 squares arranged in a 6 by 7 grid, with both Standard Squares and strategically placed In-Between Squares. Each player begins with 7 wooden disc pieces placed on their respective front rows of Standard Squares, setting the stage for intense tactical confrontations. Gameplay revolves around the Two-Phase Turn mechanic. First, a mandatory Standard Move allows players to move their chosen piece orthogonally or diagonally to an adjacent empty Standard Square. Then, an optional In-Between Move provides an opportunity to shift the same piece onto an adjacent In-Between Square. This move opens up unique positional advantages by allowing the piece to either slide to another adjacent Standard Square (except the one it just came from) or remain on the In-Between Square itself. Captures can be executed from both Standard and In-Between Squares, broadening attack possibilities. Specifically, if a piece on a Standard Square lands on a square occupied by an opponent, it captures that piece normally. Additionally, pieces on an In-Between Square can capture opponent pieces occupying adjacent Standard Squares by moving onto them. The game also features a distinctive one-time use ability per player called the Knight's Jump, which mimics the classic chess knight's "L" shaped jump. This special move allows a piece to move two squares in one direction and then one square perpendicular, with capturing potential, adding strategic depth and surprise elements. Winning requires trapping all opponent pieces or rendering them unable to make any legal moves, emphasizing both offensive and defensive strategy. Overall, The In Between Move Chess Board Game by Adjustment Bureau invites players aged 8 and up to master hidden pathways and anticipate complex maneuvers, redefining traditional chess gameplay. This game is perfect for fans eager to explore innovative strategic challenges beyond the classic board.
