Rediscovering Me: A Self-Love Date Challenge After
Hey everyone,
If you've been following me, you know I've been through a tough breakup. For months, I've been in a bit of a funk, avoiding anything that remotely resembled fun. But enough is enough! This month, I'm taking myself on a series of dates – a "date myself" challenge – to reconnect with who I am and what makes me happy.
Here's my "Dating Myself" Plan:
Week 1: Pamper & Recharge
Spa day at home (face masks, bubble bath, the works!)
Solo coffee date at a cute cafe
Pick up a new book I've been wanting to read
Week 2: Trip to Houston
New work out class
Take a scenic hike or nature walk
Week 3: Challenge & Grow
Try a new restaurant solo
Start a new hobby (painting, writing, whatever sparks my interest!)
Week 4: Reflect & Celebrate
Have a solo picnic in the park
Write in my journal about what I've learned
Treat myself to something special!
I'm excited (and a little nervous) to see how this goes. Have any of you ever tried "dating yourself"? Any tips or advice for me? I'd love to hear your suggestions!
... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my 'date myself' challenge, I've had so many thoughts and experiences I want to share, especially for those of you wondering *how to start going on more solo dates*. It's completely normal to feel a bit awkward or nervous at first – I certainly did! But as the saying goes, 'There's nothing to lose but the fear of being alone.' That really resonated with me during this journey.
One of the biggest hurdles was actually getting over myself and the fear of judgment. I kept thinking, 'What will people think if I'm eating alone?' or 'Will I look silly by myself at the park?' But honestly, I quickly realized that *nobody gives a f*ck*! Everyone is so wrapped up in their own lives, they barely notice. This liberation was huge for me, and it's what truly allowed me to embrace the experience.
For those just dipping their toes, I highly recommend you *start small*. Don't feel pressured to book a grand vacation right away. My solo coffee date was a perfect first step. Other great 'starter' ideas? How about visiting a local museum, catching an afternoon matinee, or taking a leisurely walk in a botanical garden? Even just spending an hour reading at a bustling cafe can feel incredibly empowering. And if you're worried about feeling exposed, remember to carry a distraction – a good book, your favorite podcast, or a journal to jot down thoughts can make you feel more comfortable and engaged.
Beyond my initial 4-week plan, I discovered so many unique solo date ideas that truly nourished my soul. I tried a ceramics class (even if my pots turned out a bit lopsided!), explored a new neighborhood just by walking around and popping into interesting shops, and even planned a small 'staycation' where I ordered takeout and watched movies I'd been meaning to see. The key is to do something you genuinely enjoy, something that makes you feel alive and connected to yourself, not just what you think you should be doing.
After each solo outing, I found it incredibly helpful to reflect. Instead of just journaling generally, I started asking myself 8 questions to ask yourself after a date – even a solo one! Things like: 'What did I learn about myself today?' 'What feeling did this experience evoke?' 'Was there a moment I felt truly present and happy?' 'What would I do differently next time?' 'Did this activity align with my values?' 'What was the highlight of my time?' 'How did I challenge myself?' and 'What new idea or insight did I gain?' These questions transformed my solo dates into powerful self-discovery sessions, truly helping me to understand myself better and appreciate my own company.
And let's not forget the importance of truly knowing *how to enjoy a day off*. My challenge taught me that it's not just about filling time; it's about intentional self-care. It's about giving yourself permission to relax, explore, and treat yourself! Whether it's that fancy ice coffee you usually skip, a delicious meal you cook just for yourself, or simply lounging with a good book, these small acts of kindness to yourself are essential. The biggest realization for me was to think about everything you've already missed by waiting for someone else to join you. There's a whole world out there waiting to be explored, and you are the perfect companion for yourself.
Embrace the quiet moments, celebrate your independence, and allow yourself to truly rediscover the wonderful person you are. Happy solo dating!
