MS Cognitive Issues

This one has been worse lately, and I will be sending a message to my Neurologist about it. I used to be able to multi task, remember things easily, answer basic questions without really thinking... Now, in the last week, I've had such a difficult time remembering and doing basic tasks that it's honestly a bit depressing. I shared the story about my keys being locked in the vehicle. Things I didn't share...

I went to answer the phone at work to take an order and clocked out instead.

Took an order for food I knew we were out of.

Went to pick up meds for myself and gave Clarety's birthday instead of mine.

I know there's more, but I can't think of them right now. Just know if I do forget or mess up something, please patiently and calmly let me know.

Read moreLiving with cognitive issues caused by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) can significantly impact daily life, as many experience symptoms like forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and trouble multitasking. From my personal experience, even simple tasks sometimes become overwhelming, such as recalling appointments or managing conversations in busy environments. It’s common for people with MS to experience what is often called "brain fog," which includes memory problems, slower information processing, and challenges with problem-solving. These symptoms are not universal, but when they do occur, they can affect one’s ability to work, maintain social relationships, and manage household responsibilities effectively. One helpful approach I’ve found is to establish structured routines and use tools like planners or reminder apps to keep track of daily tasks. Breaking work into smaller, manageable steps and focusing on one task at a time can reduce overwhelm and improve accuracy. It’s important to communicate openly with coworkers and loved ones about these difficulties—patients often benefit from patience and calm support when mistakes happen. Additionally, engaging in brain exercises, such as puzzles or memory games, can stimulate cognitive function and promote neuroplasticity. Stress management techniques, including mindfulness and regular physical activity, also play vital roles in maintaining cognitive health. If cognitive issues worsen, consulting with a neurologist is crucial for evaluating symptoms and adjusting treatments. Various therapies, medications, and lifestyle adjustments are available to help manage cognitive symptoms in MS. Remember, cognitive changes in MS are frequently invisible, yet they profoundly affect daily living. Sharing experiences and practical tips can empower individuals with MS to navigate these challenges more confidently and improve their quality of life.
