This is so heartbreaking and infuriating. At least three people have been killed at Mosque in San Diego in a terrorist attack. This cannot be separated from the rise in anti-Muslim hatred that has been fomented and encouraged by our politicians, media and institutions throughout the country and he exponentially increased in the last few years. My heart is broken for the families and I’m sending love to all my Muslim brothers and sisters throughout the country. 💔
Experiencing the news of this tragic attack deeply resonates with many who have witnessed increasing intolerance in their communities. Amin Abdullah’s bravery as a security guard protecting dozens of children and worshippers is a poignant reminder of the courage present in such targeted communities. Over recent years, many have observed a disturbing growth in anti-Muslim sentiment, often exacerbated by inflammatory language in political discourse and media coverage. This hostile environment not only endangers lives but also threatens social cohesion and peace. It’s vital for communities to foster understanding and solidarity, actively countering hate through education and interfaith dialogue. Personally, seeing such attacks unfold reminds me of the need to stand up against hate in everyday life—whether by challenging stereotypes, supporting affected communities, or raising awareness about the consequences of unchecked bigotry. Acts of kindness and allyship contribute to healing and resilience. As this tragic event unfolds, collective compassion and effort are critical in combating the rise of Islamophobia and ensuring the safety and dignity of all individuals. In remembering the victims, especially the heroic sacrifice of Amin Abdullah, it’s important for society to come together to address underlying causes, promote inclusion, and prevent further violence that targets innocent people based on their faith and identity.
