MAKEUP GIRLY HUMOR
any other makeup artist have this problem? 😂 follow me for humor + tutorials 🥰
It’s not just me, right? Every makeup artist out there has those hilarious moments when someone, usually a well-meaning family member or friend, decides they want to 'help' with your makeup look. I cracked up reading about the cousin scenario because it’s so incredibly relatable! I remember this one time, I was trying to perfect a cut crease on myself for an event, and my sister came over. Without missing a beat, she grabbed a brush and said, 'Let me just deepen that for you!' I nearly had a heart attack! My perfectly blended shadow was suddenly... not so perfect. We ended up laughing about it, but in that moment, all I could think was, 'Please, just let me finish my makeup look!' It's a universal MUA experience, these 'anecdotes othersmakeup.' It’s the funny side of our job, really. Sometimes it’s a client who, with the best intentions, decides to hold their breath for too long while you're doing their eyes, or they suddenly need to scratch an itch right when you’re applying eyeliner. Or the infamous 'look up' challenge! You know the one – you need them to look up so you can get under their lash line, but they tilt their whole head back, making it impossible. Or they just stare blankly into space, completely missing the 'look up, not back' memo. It’s a constant battle of gentle instructions and subtle adjustments, all while trying to maintain a professional demeanor. Then there are the 'helpful' suggestions. 'Maybe a bit more blush?' or 'Are you sure that's the right shade of foundation?' You're midway through a complex technique, completely in flow, and suddenly you're getting unsolicited advice from someone who thinks they're an expert because they watch a few YouTube tutorials. It’s all part of the job, and honestly, these moments often turn into the best stories later. I've learned to just smile, nod, and gently redirect. Sometimes, you just have to take a deep breath and remember why you love what you do, even when your canvas decides to become a co-artist! I’ve had friends loaning out my brushes without asking, or trying to 'swatch' my palettes with their fingers. It's like, these are my tools, my livelihood! But you can't get too upset, because deep down, you know they're just fascinated by the magic of makeup. It's endearing in a way, even if it adds an extra layer of challenge to an already intricate process. I've started keeping a separate 'play around' kit for when my cousin comes over and she tryna help me with my makeup look, just to avoid any accidental masterpieces on my actual kit! These little quirks make us stronger, more patient artists, don't they? And they certainly give us plenty of material for our next coffee shop chat with fellow MUAs. What are some of your most hilarious 'help' stories? I'd love to hear them! It’s these shared, funny experiences that truly connect us in the makeup community. So next time someone tries to 'help' or gives you that classic 'look up' challenge, just remember, you're not alone in that beautifully chaotic, glitter-filled world!
