SAHM diaries 🌸
Mamas do you cosleep?? I am literally the only person that didnt in my family! Everybody would rock her to sleep. She used to sleep sooooo well without being next to someone. Now ive accepted my fate and just let her sleep in my bed cause she wakes up every night to hop in my bed..
What’s crazy is I almost recorded the same exact voiceover last week because we still cosleeping but shorty has kicked it up a notch 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Okay, mamas, let's really dive into this co-sleeping journey! I felt that original post deep in my soul. When I first became a mom, I swore I'd never be a co-sleeper. My baby had her own beautiful crib, and I envisioned peaceful nights with everyone in their designated sleep spots. Oh, how quickly parenting plans change when a tiny human enters your life! Just like the original post, I found myself slowly but surely giving in. It started with those late-night feeds, then comfort snuggles after a nightmare, and before I knew it, my 'no co-sleeping' rule had completely flown out the window. There's a certain magic to it, a 'Joys of Cosleeping' that I never anticipated. Suddenly, waking up to a warm little body snuggled beside me felt less like a defeat and more like a cherished moment in our SAHM diaries. For many of us SAHMs, the lines between day and night, personal space and shared space, blur so easily. You're constantly nurturing, teaching, and loving during the day, and sometimes, that need for closeness doesn't just switch off at bedtime for either of you. It's a natural extension of the bond you're building. I remember feeling a mix of guilt and immense comfort. Guilt because of all the 'rules' I’d read, comfort because my child was finally sleeping soundly, and honestly, so was I, albeit in a slightly more cramped fashion! While the comfort and convenience of co-sleeping are undeniable – those easy night feeds without having to get out of bed are a game-changer – it’s not without its challenges. Personal space becomes a luxury, and sometimes, those little kicks and wiggles can wake you up just as much as a baby crying from their own room. My partner and I had to figure out our own rhythm, which sometimes meant one of us relocating to the guest room for a few hours of undisturbed sleep! Safety is also paramount; we made sure our mattress was firm, removed all loose blankets and pillows, and ensured there were no gaps where a little one could get stuck. I’ve learned that every family’s sleep journey is unique, and what works for one might not work for another. If you're a mom navigating these waters, whether you're actively choosing co-sleeping or, like me, slowly accepting your fate, remember to be kind to yourself. There’s no perfect way to do this. Listen to your instinct, observe your child, and do what feels right for your family's well-being. These years, especially the toddler phase, fly by. One day, they’ll be asking for their own space, and we'll probably miss those snuggly nights. So, cherish the closeness while you have it, embrace 'The Joys of Cosleeping,' and know you're doing an amazing job, mama.
