Do cats forget their owners? #cats

... Read moreCats are known for their independence, which sometimes leads owners to wonder if their feline friends forget them over time. In reality, cats tend to have strong long-term memories, especially when it comes to their owners and familiar sounds. Even if a cat appears distant at first, underneath that cool exterior, they often remember the people they trust. Scientific studies suggest that cats can remember their owners’ voices and scents for weeks or even longer. This recognition doesn’t always show as overt affection; cats express love differently—through subtle behaviors like gentle meows or slow blinking. A cat might seem aloof or worried, but a soft voice and calm presence can remind them who you are. It's important not to stress your cat by expecting them to respond immediately or behave like a dog. Love is something that develops with time and patience. Distance or a lack of attention for a period doesn’t mean they forget you; rather, cats store memories and feelings that influence how they interact when reunited. Next time you feel your cat seems distant, remember that all it takes is a little time, familiar voices, and gentle attention for your bond to shine through again.

My cat never wanted to leave me. I live in a different facility than my parents, but she remembered me. She was so stressed out because she never got to see me on her regular basis now she passed away. I don’t get to see her anymore. I talked to her on a daily basis because she was 14 years old.
