Surgery at 22 Weeks Pregnant 👀

1/10: At my 20 week check up my Dr. told me she was concerned that my cervix was too thin (measuring about 2 something cm’s at the most). To rest and they would recheck me soon.

1/17: Ultrasound started I could see it had gotten worse. They put me on progesterone to hopefully help close my cervix a bit.

1/23: Ultrasound check and IT WAS BAD. The medicine was not working at all. I lost over a cm in that short time and my cervix was now down to 3 mm’s! They scheduled the earliest surgery they could get for a cervical cerclage.

1/27: I get surgery at 7am. It goes well and now I’m on COMPLETE bed rest until further notice.

I’m still in shock that this is real life. I never knew about “cervical incompetence“ before all hell broke loose in mine. Everything just declined so fast but seemed like forever in real time.

I’m not out of the woods yet, but for being 3 mm’s I feel blessed that I made it to the point of surgery. I still have so many questions. So many concerns. But I’m trying not to stress myself out about them.

I’m hoping that the lemon8 babes will help in sharing your experiences. Give a few tips. Or just sending a few prayers my way. This is the supportive community myself and maybe some others on here really need!

Xoxo

... Read moreCervical cerclage is a common procedure for those diagnosed with cervical incompetence, especially during the second trimester of pregnancy. Understanding the risks and management strategies is essential for pregnant individuals facing similar challenges. Cervical incompetence can occur due to various factors, including previous surgeries, trauma, or genetic factors. During the procedure, a stitch is placed around the cervix to help keep it closed, potentially preventing premature labor. Post-surgery, it’s crucial to follow the doctor’s instructions regarding rest and activity to ensure the best possible outcomes. Many women find comfort in support groups, where shared experiences can provide much-needed encouragement. If you're in a similar situation, know that seeking guidance from healthcare professionals and connecting with others facing similar challenges can make a significant difference. The journey can be overwhelming, but you are not alone. Consider reaching out to online communities for stories and advice related to pregnancy and cervical cerclage. Gathering information from credible sources can enhance your understanding and prepare you for conversations with your healthcare provider.
