My mama heart 😭💔

watching your child go through anything hard is one of the worst feelings in the world. As a mom, we don’t ever want to feel helpless for our babies. But I had to put my trust in the staff & Gods hands. Thankfully she is a happy, normal child now with perfect lungs and a happy spirit. So glad I advocated for her and did everything I could, even if it meant I was struggling and broken.

My own experience with RSV was a stark reminder of how quickly things can change, and how important it is to trust your instincts. I remember those late nights, just watching my baby, feeling helpless but determined to be her strongest advocate. The image of her fighting for each breath is something I'll never forget, but it also solidified my resolve as a 'heart warrior mama.' For those who might be navigating similar waters, understanding RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is key. It's a common respiratory virus, but for infants, it can be severe, leading to bronchiolitis or pneumonia. If you notice symptoms like rapid, shallow breathing, wheezing, flaring nostrils, or your baby's chest caving in with each breath – signs of them truly struggling to breathe – don't hesitate to seek immediate medical attention. We often hear about colds, but RSV can be so much more impacting for tiny, developing lungs. Being a 'warrior mama' means being vigilant and proactive. In my case, my baby contracted it from a family member, highlighting how easily it spreads. It's tough, but sometimes we need to set boundaries, even with loved ones, especially during cold and flu season. Don't be shy about asking visitors to wash their hands thoroughly or to reschedule if they're feeling even slightly unwell. Your baby's health comes first, and advocating for that sometimes means having difficult conversations. When you're in the hospital, it can feel incredibly overwhelming. My biggest advice? Write down your questions as they come to you, don't be afraid to ask medical staff for clarification, and make sure you fully understand the treatment plan and what each medication is for. You are your child's primary voice and advocate. Even when you're exhausted and emotionally drained, try to be present and involved in their care. I found a strength I didn't know I had, fueled purely by love and the fierce desire to see my baby well again. And remember, it's absolutely okay to feel broken, scared, and overwhelmed during this journey. This experience is incredibly tough, both physically and emotionally, on parents. Lean on your support system, whether it's your partner, close friends, or online communities of other moms who've been through similar challenges. Taking care of yourself, even in small ways like grabbing a quick coffee or stepping outside for fresh air, helps you recharge and be stronger for your baby. Seeing my little one happy, thriving, and with 'perfect lungs' now makes every tear and struggle worth it. You've got this, mama, and your strength truly shines through for your little fighter.
