My skin feels okay immediately after washing

Hey everyone,

I’m at my wits end with this dry skin situation for years, my makeup clings to dry patches on my nasal labial folds, bridge of nose, and forehead no matter what foundation I use (tried Estée Lauder Double Wear, Lancôme Teint Idole, even super hydrating ones like Fenty Eaze Drop). My skin feels okay immediately after washing, but within seconds it’s tight and flaky again. At night I’ve been using The Ordinary 100% Squalane Oil, but in the morning there’s actual crusty flakes like dandruff on my face. I stopped using cleansers entirely 3 weeks ago thinking that was the problem, but no improvement. I rarely get breakouts, so it’s not dehydration from acne products. Any ideas why my skin won’t hold moisture? Could it be environmental?

... Read moreDealing with dry skin can be incredibly frustrating, especially when it affects your makeup application. Seasonal changes can significantly impact your skin’s hydration levels, leading to issues like flaky foundation around the nose and brow bone. One key factor to consider is your skincare routine. While using products like The Ordinary 100% Squalane Oil can help, it might not be enough on its own. Ensure you are using a gentle, hydrating cleanser that won't strip your skin of natural oils. Additionally, incorporating a rich moisturizer after washing can help lock in hydration. Look for creams that contain humectants like hyaluronic acid, which draw moisture into the skin. Another important aspect is the environmental factor; dry air—whether from heating in the winter or air conditioning in the summer—can exacerbate dry skin. Using a humidifier in your room can significantly help to combat this. Lastly, it’s beneficial to evaluate your diet and ensure you're drinking enough water. Consuming foods rich in omega fatty acids can also improve your skin's barrier function and hydration levels. By addressing these areas, you should see an improvement in your skin's ability to retain moisture, reducing those frustrating dry patches and flakiness.

Your skin is fighting you because you are using the wrong products. Those dry patches are actually oily spots . I went through this. No kind of lotion EVER helped my face. The ONLY MOISTURIZER that helped was not really for the face. It's Mary Kay Timewise targeting action toning lotion. It's supposed to be for cellulite but it's great. I don't use anything else. Here's my reps link. And here's what my skin looks like. No filters. http://www.marykay.com/cjones757929
