If you think YouTube Kids is safe, think again. 😰

YouTube Kids is terrible. Parents think it’s “kid-friendly,” but the reality is they don’t actually monitor what’s on there.

I’ve seen inappropriate, disturbing, and downright creepy videos slip through the filters disguised as cartoons or “learning” content. It’s lazy moderation and it’s exposing kids to things they shouldn’t see.

Just because it has the word Kids in it doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Parents: double check what your child is watching.

... Read moreMany parents turn to YouTube Kids thinking it's a safe haven for their children to explore videos designed specifically for young audiences. However, the reality often clashes with this perception. Despite the platform's attempts to filter out inappropriate content, numerous cases show that harmful and disturbing videos manage to slip past these safeguards. According to reports and user experiences, including the statements "Hot Take YOUTUBE KIDS IS NOT SAFE! IT'S HARMFUL!" and "THEY DON'T MONITOR IT!", the moderation system used by YouTube Kids can sometimes be insufficient. Videos that appear as harmless cartoons or educational content may hide unsettling or age-inappropriate themes, misleading children and worrying their parents. This problem stems in part from the platform's reliance on automated systems and user flagging, which can miss subtle or deceptive content. The sheer volume of uploads and the dynamic nature of video trends make manual moderation challenging. Experts recommend that parents do not solely rely on YouTube Kids' branding or automated filters. Instead, they should take an active role by pre-selecting appropriate videos, using parental controls, and supervising their children's viewing habits. Engaging with children about what they watch and encouraging open dialogue can also help parents identify and address inappropriate content promptly. Moreover, alternative platforms or paid subscriptions offering curated content might provide safer options for families seeking peace of mind. Ultimately, while YouTube Kids aims to provide a safe environment, vigilance and hands-on supervision remain key to ensuring children's safe and beneficial media consumption.

My little sister is an adult but she’s being punished for watching certain videos that my parents make her watch YouTube kids and bro. Some stuff she’ll talk about that she has seen is straight up disturbing. Shes shown my mom some videos and one was about a haunted doll running around the house killing people. Like that’s not kid friendly
