Easy Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks Recipe

Crispy Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks 🤍🧀

Made with simple ingredients and cooked in the air fryer for that golden crunch without deep frying.

Ingredients:

• 2 eggs

• 1 cup flour

• 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs

• 1 pack mozzarella string cheese

• 1 tsp each Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper (mixed into the flour)

• Marinara sauce for dipping

• Optional: parsley and freshly grated parmesan for topping

Instructions:

1. Cut mozzarella string cheese sticks in half and freeze for at least 30–60 minutes. This keeps them from melting too fast.

2. Set up three bowls:

• Bowl 1: Flour mixed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper

• Bowl 2: Whisked eggs

• Bowl 3: Italian breadcrumbs

3. Dip each frozen cheese stick into the seasoned flour, then into the egg, then into the breadcrumbs. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step for a double coating.

4. Place coated sticks on a tray and freeze again for 15–20 minutes.

5. Preheat air fryer to 390°F. Spray the basket lightly with oil.

6. Air fry for 6–8 minutes until golden and crispy. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burst.

7. Serve immediately with warm marinara. Top with parsley and freshly grated parmesan if desired.

Crispy outside. Melty inside.

Personal Tips:

• Freezing is not optional. If they aren’t frozen solid, they will burst.

• Double breading makes a huge difference in crispiness.

From my experience, freezing the mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes before breading is essential to prevent them from melting too quickly in the air fryer, which keeps the cheese perfectly melty inside while achieving a crispy golden crust on the outside. Double coating the sticks by dipping them again in egg and breadcrumbs creates an extra crunchy texture that mimics deep-fried sticks, but with less oil and mess. I’ve also found that preheating the air fryer to 390°F gives the best balance of crispiness and meltiness — air frying for 6 to 8 minutes is usually enough, but keep a close eye on them since cooking times can vary slightly depending on your air fryer model. Spraying the basket lightly with oil or using a cooking spray helps to achieve that beautiful golden finish without sticking. For dipping, serving with warm marinara sauce adds a classic touch of flavor, and sprinkling freshly grated parmesan with chopped parsley elevates the presentation and taste. This recipe is versatile: you can swap Italian breadcrumbs with panko for an even crunchier texture or add extra spices like smoked paprika for a subtle kick. Overall, air fryer mozzarella sticks are a quick crowd-pleaser that’s perfect for weekend snacking, parties, or even a kid-friendly appetizer. Once you master this easy recipe, you might never want to deep fry mozzarella sticks again!
