💭 Effort Isn’t Love

2025/7/18 Edited to

... Read moreThat quote, "He did the most to get me, and the least to keep me," really hits home, doesn't it? I think so many of us have been there, mistaking the initial 'wooing' phase for genuine, lasting affection. It's a tough pill to swallow when you realize that grand gestures at the beginning don't always translate into consistent, heartfelt effort once things are established. For me, learning the difference between performance and true romance was a game-changer. Performance is all about the show – the lavish dates, the over-the-top compliments, the promises. It's designed to impress, to win you over. But how do you spot it? It often lacks consistency. The effort feels like it has an expiration date once the chase is 'over.' True romance, on the other hand, is about the little things, the daily acts of kindness, the consistent support, and the genuine interest in your well-being, even when life gets busy. It's about showing up, not just for the highlight reel, but for the everyday moments. I used to worry that having 'high standards' made me seem difficult, but I've realized it's actually about self-respect and knowing what you deserve. It’s not about demanding perfection, but about recognizing patterns. Does their effort fluctuate wildly? Are they only attentive when they want something? These are signs. A truly 'spoiled girl' in the best sense of the word, doesn't just want gifts; she wants respect, consistency, and genuine care. She understands that true value lies in how someone treats you when they don't have to, not just when they're trying to impress. So, how do we cultivate these 'romantic standards' and ensure we're getting more than the bare minimum? First, define what genuine effort looks like *to you*. Is it thoughtful communication? Quality time? Acts of service? Once you know, you can communicate these expectations clearly. Second, pay attention to consistency over time. Anyone can be amazing for a week or two, but real commitment is shown in sustained effort. And finally, don't be afraid to walk away from situations where you feel undervalued. Your worth isn't tied to someone's inconsistent effort. It’s about choosing partners who are willing to consistently invest in you, not just perform for you.

I've learned that it's relatively easy to win a woman's heart, but it's not easy to keep it if you're a disingenuous man. Because the truth always comes out, and once trust is broken you can't get it back.
