👵🏾☕ BIG MAMA’S MONDAY WORD

👟🌿 DON’T SEND ME DOWN A ROAD YOU’RE TOO SCARED TO WALK

🗣️ MONDAY’S TOPIC: Stop Asking People to Carry What You Won’t Even Pick Up

Big Mama set that coffee down, leaned forward in her rocking chair and said:

👵🏾 “Baby, don’t ask people to carry a load you’ve never even tried to pick up. If you believe in that road so much, put your shoes on and walk some of it yourself.” 👟🌿

Whew. 😮‍💨☕ Now let’s have a REAL conversation.

Some folks are mighty brave when it comes to telling YOU what you ought to do.

“Go start that business.”

“Leave that job.”

“Move away.”

“Take that chance.”

“Forgive them.”

“Give them another opportunity.”

“Trust the process.”

Okay, pudding… 👀

Have YOU done it?

Because there’s a difference between encouraging somebody and pushing somebody into something you’re too afraid to attempt yourself.

That ain’t leadership.

That ain’t faith.

And sometimes, baby, that ain’t even good advice. 🤷🏾‍♀️

That’s why you need discernment. 🧿🌿

Everybody giving directions ain’t been where you’re going.

And everybody shouting “Have faith!” doesn’t get to decide what faith looks like in YOUR life.

Faith doesn’t mean being reckless.

Faith doesn’t mean ignoring wisdom.

Faith doesn’t mean letting somebody pressure you past your boundaries.

Sometimes faith sounds like:

🙏🏾 “I believe it’s possible, but I’m going to move wisely.”

Sometimes discernment says:

🧠 “That may have worked for you, but it isn’t right for me.”

And sometimes a boundary simply says:

✋🏾 “I heard your advice. I’m still making my own decision.”

👵🏾 BIG MAMA’S WORDS OF WISDOM:

“Baby, a person standing safely on the porch can tell you all day how easy it is to cross that muddy field. But until they put some boots on and get their feet dirty, they don’t know what that walk costs.” 👢🌧️

🔥

Stop allowing people who won’t risk anything themselves to shame you for moving carefully.

Take the advice.

Pray over it.

Think about it.

Use your discernment.

Then make the decision that YOU have to live with. 🙏🏾🧠🌿

Because when everything is said and done, the folks yelling instructions from the sidelines usually get to go home…

You’re the one who has to live with the consequences.

So walk by faith, yes. 🙌🏾

But take your wisdom, boundaries, and discernment with you.

And if somebody believes in that road THAT much?

👵🏾☕ Big Mama said:

“Hand ’em a pair of shoes. Let ’em show you how it’s done.” 👟😂

💬 PORCH QUESTION:

Have you ever had somebody push you to do something they were too scared to do themselves? And how did you handle it?

Pull up a chair. 🪑☕

This Monday, we’re talking about it.

... Read moreI've often encountered situations where friends or even family members push me to take leaps of faith they themselves wouldn't dare to try. It can be confusing and draining, especially when you're seeking sincere guidance but instead get pressured to conform to someone else's idea of faith without regard for your own boundaries. What really resonated with me from Big Mama’s advice is the idea that true faith is not reckless; it goes hand in hand with wisdom and careful discernment. In my own experiences, before making big decisions like changing jobs or moving cities, I always take time to assess the advice I receive. I ask myself: Has this person actually done it? Do they understand my unique circumstances? If not, I treat their advice as just one perspective rather than a rule to follow blindly. Sometimes, faith means acknowledging that what is right for someone else may not be right for me. Setting boundaries has been crucial. I've learned to say no to unsolicited advice that doesn't feel right, and I've grown more comfortable explaining my reasoning to those who mean well but might not fully grasp my journey. Big Mama’s words about handing someone the shoes to walk the road themselves is a powerful metaphor for accountability. It reminds me that encouraging others is different from pushing them into something risky just because it worked for you. One practical step I've taken is journaling about the advice I receive. Writing down my thoughts helps me pray over it and discern which direction feels aligned with my values and growth. It’s a way to respect both my faith and wisdom. Ultimately, balancing faith with discernment and healthy boundaries helps me move forward with confidence, knowing that I am carrying my own load and walking my own road—not one someone else is too afraid to tread.
