🚩 STORYTIME: LOANSHARKS CAME TO MY WORKPLACE? 😵😵😵😵

Hey guys spillin some tea abt my ex workplace… traumatising at the time but lowk funny looking back 😭

This happened WAY back when I was working at a boutique KOL agency (can’t name drop bc it’s kinda well-known… but not in a good way 😬).

I only lasted 2 months bc something always felt… off. I was being asked to do things that didn’t sit right with me morally 😶‍🌫️ and I was kinda beefing with management. Thankfully I dipped and ended up somewhere way better (still OT-ing tho… agency life 🤡).

𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐖𝐀𝐘 — 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭:

It was literally my first 2 weeks. I was just minding my own business, DM-ing KOLs, when this guy knocked on our office door.

I thought he was a delivery guy bc he was holding a parcel… until he started asking for my boss by name and pulled out official documents from the package.

Turns out… he was from court.

SERVING PAPERS. 💀💀💀

I was like ???????

That’s how I found out the company was being sued by a group of people for not fulfilling contractual obligations.

And in that moment I genuinely thought… “yeah this place is going to collapse any day now” 😭

Safe to say that was my sign to LEAVE 🏃🏻‍♀️💨

But aside from that some other red flags were:

🚩 Asking me to pay a mandatory laptop fee (that would only be reimbursed if I stayed past the probation period)

🚩 Paying me less than what was agreed on, only paying the contracted amount if I again passed the probation period (red flag bc it shows turnover rate must be rly high 😬😬😬)

Moral of the story: be careful out there guys LOL.

Idk how’s the company doing but last I read on Glassdoor, they’re still being served papers… one year later.

🔒 Save for the LOLs and follow for more cray corporate stories 💼👀

*Note: the cover pic is not from my old workplace LOL

... Read moreLooking back at my experience working at that boutique KOL agency, I realize how important it is to trust your instincts when something feels off. For me, the moment a man showed up at our office with court papers, it was a huge red flag that management was dealing with serious legal troubles and that the company culture was toxic. One thing I learned is that companies asking employees to pay mandatory fees during probation or withholding agreed wages until after probation usually indicate deeper problems, like high turnover or financial stress. Such practices can point to unethical management. I personally found it disturbing that I was pressured to pay a laptop fee that I’d only get back if I stayed long term, which definitely made me question the company’s values. Additionally, being asked to do things that didn't sit right morally is a massive alarm bell. It’s crucial to maintain your boundaries and prioritize mental health over staying in a job that conflicts with your ethics. For anyone currently working at a new place, pay attention to subtle signs like inconsistent payments, unexplained fees, or conflicts with management. Sometimes the stress of agency life and overtime can mask these issues until something serious happens. Don’t hesitate to research company reviews online—platforms like Glassdoor often reveal ongoing legal disputes or persistent employee dissatisfaction. Ultimately, my brief but intense experience taught me that leaving a bad situation early protects your well-being and career. Sharing this story is my way of helping others be more mindful when navigating their workplace environment. Stay alert, listen to your gut, and don’t be afraid to exit before the trouble catches up with you.

Online search shows quite a few KOL agencies facing law suits and bad reviews. Seems like it's quite rife in that industry.
