It’s never as bad as it seems.
When I was 17 years old, I thought I had life planned out. I thought I knew exactly what I was going to do, where I was going to go to college, and what my life would look like. But little did I know that everything was about to change.
You never know what’s right around the corner; you can’t script it even if you wanted to. You didn’t even know five minutes ago that you would be reading a post like this, right? Haha.
When circumstances changed in my life a few months before I turned 18, I realized I needed to grow up right away. I couldn’t be carefree anymore. It was no longer about my dreams; it was about stability and how to just get through the next week. I had a family to help support, bills that were due regardless of whether I had the money or not, and a whirlwind of pain, anguish, and hurt all around me. This was the first time in my life I truly questioned everything—everything I was taught growing up and everything around me. Could I really trust anyone?
Everything I thought I knew was gone. Now, all that being said, I grew up in a very unstable environment anyway, and there are so many things I could share about this, but that’s a future story altogether.
Within a year of my life being turned upside down, we had decided it would be best to move halfway across the country to a place where the cost of living would be much cheaper. This came as yet another big shake-up in my life. Before this, it was only family life that was shaken up, but I still had a large friend group. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but moving across the country would result in the slow loss of almost every single person I ever considered my friend to that date.
But it was through that loss that I really started searching for more, knowing I was meant for something bigger. I wasn’t meant to go the traditional route of everyone else—going to college, getting a regular job, etc. So, it was then that I started my first business and threw myself into a world of growth. At that time, I didn’t realize that in doing so there would be so many highs and so many lows. The personal development that comes from even being able to be successful is an ever-ending journey. However, if I still had that same friend group, I don’t know that I would have pushed through because you become like those you spend your time with.
But I share all this to say, for every single time in my life that I’ve had something “bad” happen, even when it seems the absolute darkest of days in the moment, it results in something better. There is always a lesson to learn, always a peeling back of the onion, always something better right around the corner. And I’ve had a LOT of resets over the past ten years. One day, I plan to share a lot more of my story, but for now, just know if you’re going through something, the light truly is right around the corner. In some way or another, I can promise you something AMAZING is about to happen. All we can do is focus on the next step, do the next right thing, capture this moment, and don’t worry about the whole mountain you have to climb. Engaging with like-minded individuals can foster a supportive environment that encourages growth and aspiration. Ultimately, every setback can provide an opportunity for growth. By focusing on the next step rather than the entire journey, we can manage our anxieties and cultivate a more positive outlook. Remember, light is often found just around the corner, waiting for you to embrace it and step forward.
