you’re never alone.
hi, my name is julia and this is my first post here! i’m 18 and lost my mother last year in september. i won’t get into details, but it was visually traumatizing to me if that gives you any insight into what i saw/what happened. knowing that, you can kind of assume that there hasn’t been anyone around me who can really understand and talk me through these intrusive, debilitating feelings, thoughts and memories.
however, i’ve been feeling a little down lately and took it upon myself to go visit her grave. it’s 40 minutes from where i live because she always said she wanted to be buried with her mother and brother, so i took the trip there alone. it was cold and the grass was wet, but i sat there for a good half hour.
i felt so stupid at first, but i talked to her out loud. i just sat there and talked, and then started crying, and i said things i never got to express before. the coldness didn’t matter anymore, because everything was coming out. i miss my mom, but i felt she was there with me.
i am not a religious person, but i am not closed off to spirituality. while i was there, in the area of her grave there were two cars and people visiting other graves but they were across the section. i kept hearing footsteps in the grass directly behind me. it sounded so close, and i kept looking around. i even said out loud to her, “is that you?”
i know, it sounds so silly. it really really does. but this is one of the most therapeutic things i’ve ever done for myself since she passed.
please know you’re never alone, and there is always a way to feel better healthily.
