in my 20s and still scared to do things alone

hey zesties, today's post is about something that’s been on my mind for a while, and wondering if anyone can relate to this? 💭

i’m in my 20s now, and yet i still struggle to do things on my own. simple things. walking through crowds, passing by a group of teens or poly kids, or even talking to a waiter to ask for something. they all make me really anxious

especially on days where i'm by myself, i honestly feel so powerless and useless like… why can’t i function by myself?

and it’s not about being extroverted or introverted. it’s more about struggling to be confident enough to do what i need to do, alone. sometimes, i feel like everyone else has it figured out while i’m stuck trying to feel brave just walking down a street filled with people

there was even a time where i would hyperventilate in public when the anxiety got too overwhelming. though i don’t do that anymore, i still get nervous, but i’m slowly learning how to handle it. i push myself to take small steps, going out alone for solo dates, placing my own order, making small talks and even if it feels scary, i’m trying my best to do it

so if you’ve ever felt this way too… just know you’re not alone. we all move at our own pace 🌱

💗 sending love to anyone working on themselves right now. you’re doing better than you think :)

... Read moreMany people in their 20s face the challenge of feeling scared or anxious to do things alone, which can often lead to a sense of helplessness or self-doubt. The experience shared here highlights common feelings such as nervousness walking through crowds, difficulty interacting with strangers like waiters, and even intense reactions like hyperventilation due to overwhelming anxiety. It’s important to recognize that this fear is more about confidence than personality traits like introversion or extroversion. Building this confidence takes time and patience. One effective approach is to take small, manageable steps each day — such as going out for a solo coffee or making small talk in safe, low-pressure environments. These small wins help cultivate inner strength and gradually alleviate anxiety. Another key part of overcoming this challenge involves practicing self-compassion. It’s normal to feel like everyone else has it figured out, but the truth is many are quietly facing similar fears. You're not alone in this journey, and moving at your own pace is vital for healing. The keywords "healing," "working battles," "quiet," "loud," and "thoughts" resonate strongly with this process. Healing often requires internally processing "quiet thoughts" while confronting the "loud" anxieties that can feel overwhelming. This internal battle is something many people silently endure and learn from over time. Support networks, even if virtual, can also play a beneficial role. Sharing your story or reading others’ experiences — like on communities focused on adulting challenges or mental health — can bring tremendous relief and motivation. Remember, each step forward, no matter how small, is progress toward independence and self-reliance. Ultimately, learning to do things alone is a form of personal growth and adulting that many people wrestle with during their 20s. By acknowledging fears, practicing kindness to oneself, and pushing gently beyond comfort zones, fear transforms into empowerment.

I was tired. But I was also scared to stay the same.
I didn't start because I had it all figured out. I started because staying the same felt scarier than trying something new. If you're quietly wondering whether one salary is really enough, this page is for you. Follow @winwithelaine for honest conversations about building income onlin

being alone taught me what self love actually means 🤍✨
i don’t have friends, and honestly… i’ve learned to be okay with that. it’s not something i say out of bitterness or to make myself feel better, it’s something i’ve slowly come to accept. i would rather be at peace being alone than constantly living in my head, overthinking every little thing, w
