Comments I get a lot when a share the Lilith.
Let's talk about it.
This is def a long form post.
I do a lot of research when I design these pieces. And I'm not talking generic Google type of research where the results are all opinion blogs written post 2020. I do open source academic research. The type where you have to download a 700 page PDF in order to read the information. Then I carefully take what I learn and try to transition it to visual elements that I then use, kind of like making a collage, to design the final dagger.
"Well then you should know the Lilith isn't a Goddess 😡😡😡"
Yes she is. And I'm going to break down as to why I say this with confidence.
First we have to delve into the word demon. Originally the word did not mean "an evil spirit" or "devil" or "hell creature".
The word demon comes from the ancient Greek word "daimon". Prior to the year 500 BC the word daimon was defined as a "guiding force", "a divine power", or simply as "a spirit".
During the first century AD/CE the Christian Church began to shift it's meaning. Their works begin to describe them as "hostile and deceptive beings"
Then during the second century AD/CE theologians like Justin Martyr flat out began saying that daimons were "the devil" and "beings from hell".
So we are going to take this information, which is demons=daimons and daimons=any spiritual being, and we are going to add it to the word apotheosis.
Apotheosis is derived from both the Latin and Greek and it means "to elevate someone to divine status; to deify"
In layman's terms what this means is that with enough human worship anyone, any spirit, or any object can be elevated to the status of a deity.
The list of apotheosized figures throughout the history of religion is vast. We are talking thousands and thousands of deities across every culture in the world that all started out as something other than a God.
A VERY brief list to give you all familiar examples.
Mortals- Hercules, Dionysus, Ariadne, Julius Caesar, Pele
Nymphs- Styx, Electra, Calyso
Daimones- Thanatos, Eris, Nemesis
Titans- Promotheus, Helios, Cronus
Demons- Ganesha, Vasuki, Aphopos
So, taking all of this information into context, and the fact that people have worshipped Lilith as a Goddess for centuries I believe that it is safe to say that if she hasn't been apotheosized in her afterlife yet, that it's only a matter of time before she is. This is why I zero qualms with calling her what she is. A divine figure.
