Although it wasn't my absolute favorite, the novel's atmospheric and dark tone really pulled me in. The concept of a sin eater—a person believed to absorb the sins of others—adds a fascinating cultural and spiritual layer to the plot, making it stand out in the historical fiction genre. What I appreciated most was how Megan Campisi weaves mystery elements seamlessly with historical details, enriching the story with authenticity and suspense. The novel’s pace is steady, making it a solid choice for readers who enjoy thoughtful narratives rather than purely fast-paced thrillers. I missed my usual book club discussion this time, which was a shame because it’s one of those books that sparks great conversations about morality, tradition, and human nature. If you enjoy books that explore complex characters against a richly described setting, this one is worth adding to your reading list. Despite some minor pacing issues, the suspense builds effectively, and the emotional undertones give the story depth. Whether you’re a fan of historical mysteries or looking to join a book club discussing compelling reads, "Sin Eater" offers plenty to reflect on and talk about.
