Best & worsts eats in Japan!

... Read moreDuring my recent trip to Japan, I tried an impressive variety of foods that truly showcased the diversity of Japanese cuisine. One standout was Gyukatsu in Kyoto, a breaded, deep-fried beef cutlet served with a hot plate so you can cook the meat to your liking. It was a perfect blend of crispy exterior and tender inside, paired beautifully with fresh cabbage on the side. In Tokyo, the SHOGUN Burger left me utterly speechless — this wagyu beef double burger was rich, juicy, and absolutely worth every bite. I went back for seconds! For something unique, I also visited Lambert, known for their matcha beverages, including the surprisingly delightful watermelon matcha, which was both refreshing and flavorful. Not all experiences were perfect, though. Takoyaki in Osaka, filled with diced octopus, wasn’t to my taste, ranking quite low because of the unexpected chewy texture that caught me off guard. Similarly, the beef sashimi dish was not something I could embrace raw, even though it’s a local specialty—cooking it a bit helped me enjoy it more. Trying pizza in Japan also offered surprises, like the corn topping on a Domino's pizza that initially felt odd but wasn’t bad after all. Conversely, La Pizza D'oro in Osaka served a solid thin-crust pizza that I would happily order again. Beyond these, I stumbled upon some treats like Costco’s bulgogi bake, which delivered a large portion size bursting with sweetness and flavor. Food in Japan can range from traditional to innovative and quirky, and every meal provided an adventure. Although I missed out on omakase this time, it's high on my list for the next visit because experiencing sushi prepared by skilled chefs is a must-do culinary delight in Japan. Overall, my food journey was filled with highs and lows, but every bite added to the story of my travels. Exploring Japanese food markets, street vendors, and small eateries revealed the passion and craftsmanship behind every dish. I encourage anyone visiting Japan to keep an open mind, savor the flavors, and embrace both the best and the challenging eats — it’s all part of the authentic experience!
