Walk 5 miles with me (restarting my weight loss journey, AGAIN) it’s been a long road of trying to reach a weight that I actually like on myself. I got to my heaviest weight (195) last year in October/November and have been struggling to lose the weight. I thought it was something wrong with me, but tbh, I just lack consistency + discipline. I would train for a month and fall off after seeing results which is terrible, I know. I now understand what my body needs: 3-4 strength training days, 8-12k steps daily (crucial), and some pilates to tone. I already know what foods to eat in terms of protein and Whole Foods, so I’m good there. The working out just needs some work. #weightlossjourney #walkwithme #howtoloseweight #zone2cardio
Consistency is truly the key to successful weight loss, something I’ve realized firsthand during my journey. When I combine regular walking—specifically targeting around 8,000 to 12,000 steps daily—with strength training 3 to 4 times a week, I can feel the difference not just in how my clothes fit, but in my energy levels and mood. One technique I’ve found incredibly effective is Zone 2 cardio, a light to moderate aerobic exercise where your heart rate stays at about 60-70% of its max. Walking at this “conversational pace” helps maximize fat burning and builds cardiovascular fitness without overtaxing your body. I track my heart rate during these walks to stay in this optimal zone, which usually translates to a steady pace of around 19-20 minutes per mile. Incorporating Pilates once or twice a week adds an excellent toning element, improving core strength and flexibility that supports my overall fitness. Nutrition-wise, focusing on whole foods rich in protein helps fuel my workouts and supports muscle recovery. However, the biggest hurdle for me has been maintaining discipline over time. Initially, I would see quick results from training hard for a month but then lose momentum. Understanding that sustainable progress requires steady habits gives me hope that this time I can stay consistent. Tracking my activity with apps that log distance, calories burned, and heart rate has been motivating. For example, a recent 4.69-mile walk burned over 550 active calories and kept my average heart rate at 152 bpm, reflecting a solid workout without overwhelming fatigue. To anyone else struggling with weight loss, I recommend finding a fitness routine you enjoy and combining it with mindful eating habits. Remember, it’s not about quick fixes but creating a lifestyle that supports your goals. Small steps each day add up to big changes over time.
