Day Seven Win 🎀

Learning to Slow Down

My whole adult life, I have felt like I was running out of time.

Becoming a teenage mother does something to your brain. I wanted to accomplish everything while somehow not missing a single moment of my baby growing up. I tried to do it all, instead of honoring the small moments I actually had.

Every time I reached one place, I was already racing to the next because I believed I “didn’t have time.”

Then I heard someone say, “walk and chew gum.”

Slowly, my feet touched the ground. That running on clouds, floating to nowhere feeling began to fade.

Every single year of my son’s eleven years on this earth, I have moved. I did not renew leases. I decided I did not like it there anymore. I found the smallest reason to start over. I thought if I restarted enough times, I would eventually get it right.

But he got older. I grew tired. And life kept happening.

This does not have to make sense to anyone. This is simply my alternative to journaling. If sharing helps someone else while I heal myself, then it is worth it.

Just walk for a while. It is okay to slow down. It is okay to breathe.

Even death does not scare me anymore.

Relax. Learn to have fun. Learn to laugh without replaying the list of things you think you did wrong.

Smile. It improves your mood.

If you are in a season where everything feels rushed, you are not alone.

We are allowed to take our time.

Understanding this is my win for the day. (And I put up my spice rack! 😆)
