Wanna travel the world?!? *young & broke* 🌏

You don’t have to be rich to travel!!! Here are 3 countries I would recommend traveling to if you’re young & broke:

*disclaimer* I’m from the US & am comparing the other currencies to the US dollar. These are also places where I’ve found cheap flights to & from the US, so depending where you live, flights to these places may be expensive 🤷🏼‍♀️

Costa Rica

✈️ Getting here from the USA is very affordable.. my roundtrip flight was cheaper than flying roundtrip from the East to West Coast of the USA!

🏠 Staying here is affordable as well.. especially if you split an Airbnb with friends. Or you could stay in a hostel! The US dollar goes far here.

🍽️ Food is cheap! Again, the US dollar goes far.

Lagos, Portugal

✈️ If you come here in the “off season” (aka not the height of summer) you’re guaranteed to find a flight for half the cost without sacrificing good weather!

🏠 Staying in hostels here is the way to go! They’re so fun & safe… & cheaper than the nearby airbnbs & hotels.

🍽️ Buy groceries! My groceries for 1.5 weeks was around €30-€40. Crazy cheap compared to America!

Guatemala

✈️ Because this country is so close to the US, a flight is just as affordable as flying domestically within the states!

🏠 The accommodation is affordable too.. I split a VERY nice boutique hotel with 3 friends & it was only about $20 a night per person!

🍽️ Food is not expensive as the US dollar goes far.

SAVE this post for your future travels!✈️🌏

... Read moreIt's a common dream to explore the world, especially when you're young and full of energy, but often a thin wallet feels like the biggest barrier. I totally get it! Having traveled on a shoestring budget myself, I've learned that being "young & broke" doesn't mean your travel dreams have to wait. While the article highlights some fantastic and affordable destinations like Costa Rica, Lagos, and Guatemala, let's dive deeper into some universal hacks and tips to make those travel aspirations a reality, and how to capture every amazing moment along the way. First, let's talk about stretching every dollar. Beyond picking budget-friendly countries, savvy planning is key. For flights, flexibility is your best friend. Instead of fixed dates, use "flexible dates" options on flight comparison websites. Consider traveling in the "off-season" – not only are flights cheaper, but you'll experience fewer crowds. I often find incredible deals by being open to flying on weekdays or with budget airlines, even if it means a layover or two. Always set price alerts for your desired routes; you'd be surprised how often deals pop up! When it comes to accommodation, hostels are truly a game-changer for young travelers. They're not just cheap; they're social hubs where you can meet like-minded adventurers, find travel buddies, and get local tips. Many now offer private rooms if dorms aren't your thing, often still cheaper than hotels. If you're traveling with friends, splitting an Airbnb in a local neighborhood, away from the main tourist drag, can be incredibly cost-effective and give you a more authentic experience. Imagine having a cozy place to return to after a day of exploring, possibly with a kitchen to save on food costs. Speaking of food, eating out for every meal can quickly drain your budget. My go-to strategy is to hit local markets for fresh produce and cook some meals at my accommodation. Street food is another fantastic option – it's often delicious, authentic, and incredibly cheap. In places like Guatemala, the food is not expensive, and you can enjoy local flavors without breaking the bank. Always look for places where locals eat; that's usually a sign of good food at good prices. Now, let's address the "wanna travel the world and take pictures" part. Capturing your adventures is so rewarding, and you don't need fancy gear. Your smartphone can be an incredibly powerful tool. Focus on composition, use natural light (sunrise and sunset are magical for landscapes!), and don't be afraid to take candid shots of local life. Look for iconic natural features – like the stunning "mountains" and "lakes" often found in Guatemala, or the vibrant "jungles" and pristine "beaches" of Costa Rica. The dramatic "ocean views" and unique "rock formations" of Lagos, Portugal, are perfect for breathtaking photos. Remember, the best pictures tell a story. Don't just photograph landmarks; capture the feelings, the people, and the small details that make each trip unique. Always back up your photos regularly, whether to cloud storage or an external hard drive, so those precious memories are safe. Finally, remember that travel is about experiences and personal growth. Research your destinations thoroughly, learn a few basic phrases in the local language – it goes a long way! Consider getting travel insurance; it's a small expense that can save you a huge headache. Be open, be curious, and embrace the unexpected. Traveling young and broke isn't just possible; it's an incredibly enriching way to see the world and collect stories that will last a lifetime. So, save up, plan smart, and get ready for your next adventure!
