THINGS TO KNOW ~ before visiting Greece 🤍🌊 pt. 2

As Greece is a popular destination for travelers this summer (and for summers past & summers to come haha!!), I have decided to make a part 2 of “things to know before visiting Greece” 🫶🏼 You’re welcome! ;)

I LOVE visiting Greece & knowing these things will help make your trip better:

1. It will be crowded if you visit during peak season, so make reservations early, book ferries & excursions early, and most definitely arrive at photo spots early!

2. Don’t be afraid to try Greek dishes! You are only in Greece once. And they might actually be your new favorite food, but you will never know til you try 👀

3. Most people speak English.. especially in the tourist towns but it wouldn’t hurt to learn some basic Greek words or phrases out of courtesy ☺️

SAVE this post for your trip to Greece!🧿

Greece

... Read moreHey fellow travelers! So glad you're looking for more Greece insights. After my amazing trips, I realized there's always more to learn to make your vacation truly seamless and enjoyable. Beyond snagging those early reservations and trying every delicious Greek dish, here are a few more tips I swear by: 4. Getting Around is Part of the Adventure! While ferries are iconic for island hopping, don't forget about local transport on the islands themselves. In places like Santorini, exploring the winding paths between the white-washed buildings on foot is a must, but for longer distances, consider renting an ATV or a small car. Just imagine zipping along coastal roads with the Aegean Sea sparkling beside you! Taxis are available, but local buses are a super affordable way to get from Fira to Oia, often with breathtaking views. I usually combine walking for short scenic strolls with buses or an ATV for exploring further afield. Remember to check local schedules, especially in smaller towns. 5. Pack Smart: Comfort is Key! Greek summers are glorious, but the sun is no joke! My absolute must-haves include high-SPF sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses. And trust me on this: comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable. You'll be navigating ancient ruins, cobbled streets, and countless steps (especially if you're exploring the iconic blue-domed churches up close!). Light, breathable clothing is essential for daytime, but a light jacket or scarf can be handy for cooler evenings or ferries. If you plan to visit monasteries or churches, remember to pack something that covers your shoulders and knees out of respect for local customs. 6. Embrace 'Siga Siga' (Slowly, Slowly) One of the most beautiful aspects of Greek culture is the relaxed pace of life. Don't rush! Things might move a little slower than you're used to, whether it's service at a taverna or waiting for a bus. Embrace the 'siga siga' philosophy. This isn't inefficiency; it's a way of life that encourages savoring every moment. I've found that being patient and polite goes a long way. Locals truly appreciate visitors who respect their rhythm. It's a key part of truly immersing yourself in the Greek experience, letting you soak in the atmosphere and enjoy your surroundings, perhaps even from a comfy green cushioned bench overlooking a square. 7. Hydration & Health Reminders With all the sun and walking, staying hydrated is crucial. Always carry a water bottle, and remember that tap water is generally safe to drink in most major towns and islands, but it's always good to ask locally. Many grocery stores sell large bottles cheaply. Also, consider bringing a small first-aid kit with essentials like blister plasters (those walking shoes can only do so much!), pain relievers, and insect repellent. A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring your Greek adventure stays healthy and happy. These extra tips, from navigating like a local to packing the right gear and embracing the culture, will definitely elevate your Greece vacation. Enjoy every sun-drenched moment!
