My book launched exactly 1 month ago as an eBook, and rose to # 1 New Release on Amazon! The paperback has been out for a couple weeks, but I waited to announce it because the news lately has been a whirlwind of heartbreak and chaos.
Every day, it feels like we’re watching the unraveling of so much Americans have fought for, like #DEI and women’s rights. Then there's the rise of #Christian nationalism. These aren’t just headlines to me; they’re the backdrop of my life.
My book dives into these issues head-on. As a #Black , gay man, I’ve spent my life fighting for my right to exist... literally. I took a discriminatory workplace to federal court because I refused to be erased. I’ve looked into the eyes of misogyny, first from my own father who swore working for a woman would ruin a career. He couldn’t have been more wrong. Some of the best bosses I’ve ever had were women... strong, compassionate, and unapologetically themselves.
Growing up under the spectacle of Evangelical Christianity left deep scars. It wasn’t just about silencing me; it was about erasing my humanity, my expression, and my right to breathe. These are more than past battles, as they’re playing out in the news every single day.
This is why I wrote my book. This is why I’m sharing my story. Because radical empathy isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a necessity. And right now we need it more than ever.
There's more exciting news about the book coming soon. But for now, thank you for being part of this journey. For seeing me. For seeing each other. For fighting for a world where everyone can exist as their full, unapologetic selves.
In a world grappling with issues of race, sexuality, and faith, storytelling offers a powerful tool for connection and healing. My experience as a minority navigating the complexities of life has shaped the narrative of my book, which resonates with many facing similar challenges. The rise of movements advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion (#DEI) has brought much-needed attention to systemic inequalities, yet has also clashed with rising nationalistic sentiments that seek to silence marginalized voices. This clash of ideologies serves as a backdrop for my discourse, encouraging readers to reflect on their own beliefs and the importance of maintaining one’s identity in a society that often marginalizes different expressions of self. My narrative serves not only as a personal testament but also as a broader commentary on societal issues that affect various communities, particularly the LGBTQ+ and Black populations. Books can ignite conversations that lead to meaningful change. As I share my story, I hope to inspire readers to engage in radical empathy, to understand the journeys of others, and to fight against the societal forces of hatred and discrimination. The importance of solidarity in these times cannot be understated, as we work towards a future where every individual can exist authentically. Thank you for joining me on this journey and for advocating for a world where empathy and acceptance prevail.
